Strangely, I agree with MMSdome. Just because hes Michael Jackson doesnt mean he should get a funeral funded by the public.
Did they sell the tickets, or just have people win them and the public fund it?

Wait, so if I donate to somebody then I'm not allowed it back? Shit, I better not give that cash to the RSPCA!

If you donate to the RSPCA then don't expect the city to pay for memorial services. Yeah. Exactly what I was saying.

dude...first of all, it's michael jackson.
second of all, i would much rather see the city blow 10 mill on his funeral services than on any one of the 1000+ pointless, idiotic, and downright corrupt programs used to filter money into politicians' pockets.
third, it's michael jackson. the king of pop. one of the best entertainers who inspired millions around the world. despite having a really f-ed up personal life (including charges of child molestation that were never proved), he has revolutionized the music industry on several fronts - this deserves your praise.
besides, who HASN'T tried to moonwalk before??

There was a drawing you could enter in and you found out if you got tickets 2 days before the service. Think of the bank you could make for selling one of those babies 50 years from now.

The only people who deserve a funeral funded by the public are soldiers who die on duty.
The family should pay for his funeral, in fact only people who know him should even be involved in it.
But i have seen far far worse uses of public money...

We should have a public funeral for MMSDome!! Hell I'll pay for half the cost even thought I don't know him! *end sarcasm*
Wonder how many more celebrities will get this same treatment like MJ! Hmmm haven't hear anything about David Carradine.

Wow, I didn't know that. Sure it's sad that he died, and I know he was the king of pop and influenced music everywhere......but come on, is it really that big of a deal? He wasn't anything above a regular human being, and spending that much on him just because he died seems a little out there.

So.... I guess people are tending to forget a few key items here.
First. While LA is paying for the memorial service, they will also generate a very large amount of income for hotels, rental cars, etc etc from the people that are coming.
Second. Most movie stars and big name record companies pay the city that hosts a large event (Oscars, memorial services, concerts, charity events, etc) a very large donation, mainly for the chance to be in the news.
Third. LA also will reap the rewards from this due to direct donations from the Jackson family.
So, overall, they will come out ahead.

inflation ftw - please don't ever assume that the goverment is responsible with money allocation/creation. more money will be printed to cover the costs of MJ's funeral, at the people's expense.
don't get me wrong - i totally agree that these costs should be covered by the family, the MJ foundation, and/or whatever individuals decide to donate their money.
it should NOT be covered by a federal body, whose funds come from each and every one of us.
however like i said before, the money is being spent/made regardless, so i'd rather see it go to paying for MJ's funeral than lining the pockets of politicians or thrown at failing companies as bailouts.

UGAGUDZ MICHAEL JACKSON! HE TOUCHED SOME KIDS, BUT COME ON, MICHAEL JACKSON! MICHAEL JACKSON!!
I'm so sick of him. I was sick of him when he was alive and I'm even more sick of him now.
I don't even like his music. Other than music, he didn't do much - a complex-filled man that had more operations than any of the mainstream crap-stars or porn actors out there.
How nice to see that America treats singers better than artists or scien... Oh, right, they don't have many of them.

The city paid for the services? I though it was either donations (of time by performers) or MJ's $$. The Governing Terminator should slap his mayors for their idiocy.
Sure, its sad, a celebrity died. Being a metal/folk fan, it doesn't effect me. If he was a millionaire then his assets should have covered that, not a crippling economy.

arnold schwarzenegger is a huge idiot and is screwing up california. I can't wait for his reign to end.
As for mikey. This just shows where peoples priorities and morals are. The guy was a horrible parent. Forcing his kids to wear masks and dangling small children over railings. Who knows how badly his kids are screwed up. What kind of childhood issues is "Blanket" going to have...
Not to meantion he MIGHT have been a child molester. But none of that matters because he used to grab his crotch and scream. But people are american idol watching morons, so none of this suprises me in the least.
I do feel bad that mikes life was so screwed up, his childhood was jacked by his jerk off parents. But you know what, he was rich and he was an adult. The first step to self improvement is getting over it.
Movie stars and musicians are not my idea of role models. They're just people and people suck. Popularity dictates social standards. Mike was their god, not mine.
May mike rest in peace or rot in hell. Which ever end he deserves. No one knows but the people involved and god. -And thats not a (I hate) comment if you read what I said. Its a (live with the consequences of your actions) comment.

Just remember that not all american's are superficial, self absorbed pigs. Some of us actually know what really matters and act accordingly.

wow. just...wow.
btw, musicians are artists. unless of course you are talking about traditional painters, in which case yea, not many people here care about them.
and don't even get me started on scientists.
people pay money for things that they value, whether that be a beautiful painting, scientific breakthroughs, or watching a black man with bleached white skin and half a nose moonwalk across a stage.
his personal life was hardly beyond reproach, but you might think about expanding your musical tastes while living in that righteous bubble.

Must Disagree... over the cours eof his governing he has done good.. Taking in affect that he is a movie star wihtout any prior position in government he is doeng god damn good job. + before he came to office the state was in the shithole he is holding up rather well and is doing a fine job.. Taking inot the account of his joints disease and constand medications he has to taker to keep his bones together.. Cyt him some slack...You should research what he has done for the state before bashing him.. unles ofcourse you look only at people failures and not thei successes.....
And yeah disregarding my post.. i also thouhgt it was celeberties and his family that paid for that.
